4 --..""--- Supplement to ANNEX 14, Second E.diti.on SUMMARY OF DIFFERENCES AND COMMENTS AUSTRALIA Definitions Elevation of an "Australia does not agree with the definition of "elevation Aerodrome of an qerodrorne" and considers that this elevation should be the mean and not the highebt point of the usable landing area. The following definitions have therefore been adopted in ustralian Practices and Standards a Aerodrome Reference Point -- A designated point established in the horizontal plane at or near the geometric centre of the landlng area at an eleva- tion corresponding to the mean elevation of the usable landing area b Elevation of an Aerodrome The elevation of the aerodrome reference-point for a particular aero- drome. The reason for this deviation from the IGAO Standard is that it is considered that, from the operational point of view, it is immaterial whether the- highest point, the lowest point or the mean elevation of the usable area is adopted as the official aerodrome elevation, provided that whichever is adopted, is made clear to all concerned and is made the same for all aerodromes. If the highest point were adopted as the defi.nition of the Aerodrome Elevation it wo-uld result in there being two separate and different elevation data for every- aero-, drorne - the aerodrome elevati.on and the elevation of the aerodrome reference point On the other hand, by adopting "the mean elevation of the usable landing area" it would be, possib1.e to make the official "Aerodrome Elevation" coi.ncide wj.th the elevation of the AerJodrome Reference Point in almost all cases, 'This would result in an overall simplification and would av0i.d m'uch con- fusion, ''
